TOUR OVERVIEW
FULL INITERARY
Port Departure - Meet Your Guide
Upon your ship’s arrival at the Aomori port, your English-speaking guide will warmly welcome you with a signboard. After a brief introduction, you’ll board your private car or coach for a scenic drive toward Hirosaki - a city renowned for its samurai heritage, well-preserved temples, and spectacular seasonal landscapes.
Choshoji Temple in Zenrin-gai
Your first stop is Choshoji Temple, the head temple of the Tsugaru clan, founded in the early 17th century. Located in the tranquil Zenrin-gai district, the temple is surrounded by old cedar trees and features traditional wooden gates, serene pathways, and the graves of Hirosaki’s early feudal lords.
As you explore the temple grounds, your guide will share stories about the Tsugaru family, their influence on the region’s history, and the enduring spiritual traditions of northern Japan. The calm and contemplative atmosphere offers a perfect introduction to Hirosaki’s cultural depth.
Hirosaki Park
Next, visit Hirosaki Park, one of Japan’s most famous historical parks, known for its beautiful moats, bridges, and thousands of cherry trees that bloom spectacularly in spring. Regardless of the season, the park’s scenery is breathtaking from lush summer greenery to fiery autumn leaves and peaceful winter snowscapes.
Hirosaki Castle
Within the park stands the iconic Hirosaki Castle, originally built in 1611 by the Tsugaru clan. The three-story keep, surrounded by moats and stone walls, remains one of Japan’s few original Edo-period castles.
*Note: Restoration work on the castle’s stone walls is currently underway, limiting access to certain areas. However, visitors can still admire the elegant structure, learn about its history, and capture wonderful photos from designated viewpoints around the park.
Sannai Maruyama Archaeological Site
After exploring Hirosaki, continue to Aomori City and visit the Sannai Maruyama Archaeological Site, one of Japan’s largest and most important prehistoric settlements. Dating back over 5,000 years to the Jomon period, this open-air museum showcases ancient dwellings, reconstructed pit houses, and artifacts that provide insight into early Japanese life.
Walk through the expansive site and imagine what life was like thousands of years ago, as your guide explains the cultural and archaeological significance that led to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Nebuta WA RASSE Museum
Conclude your tour with a visit to the Nebuta WA RASSE Museum, dedicated to Aomori’s world-famous Nebuta Festival. Step inside to witness the grandeur of the festival floats — massive, hand-crafted paper lanterns illuminated from within, depicting warriors, gods, and mythical creatures.
Through interactive exhibits, music, and vivid displays, you’ll experience the passion and artistry that define this centuries-old celebration. This lively museum visit offers a colorful and inspiring end to your journey through Aomori’s cultural heritage.
Return to Aomori Port in time
After your cultural exploration, relax as your driver and guide escort you back to the port in time for your ship’s departure. Reflect on a day filled with history, artistry, and the natural charm of northern Japan — an unforgettable highlight of your voyage.
Note:The order of visits may vary depending on traffic and opening hours to ensure the smoothest experience possible.
