FULL INITERARY

Port Departure - Meet Your Guide

Arrive at Kumamoto Port and meet your English-speaking guide who warmly welcomes you with a name board. Travel in comfort by private coach as you begin your cultural exploration of Kumamoto.

Kumamoto Castle

Start your journey at Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan’s most impressive and historically significant fortresses. Recently restored after earthquake damage, the castle grounds feature massive stone walls, reconstructed keeps, and elegant turrets.

The castle was designated as an “important cultural property”. Its stunning architecture from the 17th century with large grounds and elegant classic-styled buildings surrounded by solid walls give visitors a great impression. The splendid views of the grounds, surrounding city and hundred cherry blossom trees can be enjoyed from the top floor of the main tower. Your guide will share stories of the castle’s famous samurai defenders and point out the castle’s unique architectural features that reflect centuries of military innovation.

Sakuranobaba Josaien

Just outside the castle walls, stroll through Sakuranobaba Josaien, a cultural complex designed to recreate the atmosphere of Edo-period Kumamoto. Discover shops selling regional crafts and snacks, explore small exhibits on samurai life, and perhaps meet local staff in period costumes. It's a charming and educational stop that blends history with modern hospitality.

Suizenji Park (Suizenji Jojuen Garden)

End the sightseeing portion with a relaxing visit to Suizenji Park, a stunning 17th-century landscape garden. Designed to represent the 53 post stations of the old Tokaido Road in miniature, the garden features a peaceful pond, gentle walking paths, and a symbolic miniature Mount Fuji. A true masterpiece of Japanese garden design: calm, balanced, and deeply photogenic.

Return to Kumamoto Port in time

Reboard your coach and return to the port, passing through Kumamoto’s scenic cityscape. Your guide ensures you arrive back in time for your cruise departure, relaxed and enriched by your day’s discoveries.
