FULL INITERARY
Meet Your Guide & Depart from Port
Meet your friendly English-speaking guide at the port and begin your journey into Kyoto in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle.
Explore Arashiyama Area
- Bamboo Forest: Step into a dreamlike world as you stroll through the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. The towering bamboo stalks create a natural green tunnel that sways gently with the breeze — a place to breathe deeply and feel completely present.
- Togetsu-kyo Bridge: Cross the iconic “Moon Crossing Bridge,” offering sweeping views of the Katsura River. Framed by forested hills, this historic wooden bridge is a favorite in every season, whether cherry blossoms bloom or autumn leaves blaze.
Visit Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion)
Marvel at Kyoto’s most iconic temple, Kinkaku-ji. Covered in gold leaf, the temple shimmers against the backdrop of its tranquil reflecting pond and sculpted gardens. It’s a breathtaking blend of art, architecture, and spirituality.
Visit Fushimi Inari Taisha
End your cultural journey at this world-renowned shrine, famous for its seemingly endless path of vermilion torii gates. Dedicated to the Shinto god of rice and prosperity, it’s a place where tradition and nature intertwine.
*Note: Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine is only partially wheelchair accessible. The main shrine grounds and the first section of the torii gates can be reached via ramps and an elevator, but the mountain path is steep with many stairs.
Stroll Higashiyama District (if time permits)
*This attraction is specially arranged for cruise guests of Diamond Princess on August 14 2026.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll through Kyoto’s enchanting Higashiyama District, one of the city’s best-preserved historic neighborhoods. This charming area is renowned for its traditional wooden machiya houses, narrow stone-paved lanes, and beautifully preserved streetscapes that transport visitors back to Japan’s old capital era.
Return to Port

Rhys E –
An excellent tour. The gardens visited were beautiful. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative. She was kind, helpful, and showed us the best spots! The tour was great! Highly recommend.
Alessia D –
Had a great time with our guide and the rest of the group. Amazing hike with plenty to learn and see. Each stop along the way was entertaining. I would probably recommend to those tourists who choose to go to Arashiyama to take more UV protection of different kinds and some cooling devices in case of heat. Another tip would be to bring some mosquito protection.
Maree Schkabla –
My visit to Kyoto’s Arashiyama Bamboo Forest was one of the most peaceful and beautiful travel experiences I’ve ever had! The towering bamboo stalks and quiet paths make you feel like you’ve stepped into another world. Japan is very safe, and I felt completely secure walking around, even with my camera gear. Just remember to wear comfortable shoes, stay hydrated, and keep the area clean for everyone to enjoy.
Michael Jeavons –
This was the fourth guided tour we went on in Japan and it was, by far, our favorite! Our guide was so kind and welcoming. He spoke great English and took amazing photos of us in the bamboo forest. It looked like no one was there but us even though there were a lot of people. This tour didn’t feel like as much walking as others I’ve done and the pacing was perfect. We had just enough time at each destination.
François Bellamy –
Kyoto is elegance incarnate. We were drawn to this tour for its quiet pace and scenic charm, and it exceeded expectations. The view of Kinkakuji across the pond was like a painting, and Arashiyama’s light filtering through the bamboo was absolutely cinematic.
For couples looking to escape the crowds and simply enjoy Kyoto’s iconic beauty in peace, this is the way to do it. The pacing allowed us to take photos and breathe.
Cohensa –
We had a wonderful experience on our tour! We particularly enjoyed the bamboo forests and the monkey experience. Our tour guide was fantastic! She was very knowledgeable and even gave us great recommendations for other places to tour in the area for when the tour was done. I highly recommend going on a tour with this company!
Dieter Schneider –
“Our guide, Ms. Emi, was graceful, knowledgeable, and incredibly attuned to the group’s needs. She shared history with heart, and even helped one of our friends find a quiet prayer moment at the shrine.
The van was clean, cool, and perfectly timed at every stop. I’ve taken dozens of shore excursions in my life, and this one stood out for its calm professionalism and warm delivery. A beautiful city, and an even more beautiful way to see it.
Solveig Johansen –
We’re both in our seventies and appreciate beauty without too much walking and this tour was perfect. The van was comfortable, the itinerary well-paced, and the stops were stunning.
The gardens, temples, and even the short walk through Arashiyama were manageable and soul-refreshing. We were especially grateful for the little breaks between each landmark. Kyoto is elegant, and this tour honored that grace with every detail.
Sunny Baker –
Our tour guide Maria did a great job, was very accommodating of our group considering the heat and even gave us little bags of ice. Very knowledgeable, and planned lots of stops to use the restroom. She offered to take our photo a several points. It was a great experience and would highly recommend.
